Christmas Rose Growing and Maintenance Tips

Naturally found on slopes at higher elevations. Best grown in dappled shade, full shade or in full sun provided they have extra moisture. Thrives in well-drained conditions and in limestone soil, with ample moisture during the spring. Slow to establish. Helleborus niger should not be disturbed once mature. Self-seeds when sited properly.

Genus Overview: Helleborus

Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Grows best in average to moist, well-drained soils in partial to full shade. During flowering time they require consistant moisture, but are generally drought tolerant during the non-flowering seasons. They do not like to be moved once established. Remove damaged leaves in late winter (or before buds appear), to encourage new fresh growth. Disease resistant.
