Gentian Growing and Maintenance Tips

Grows best in an average to moist, acidic, well-drained soil, in partial shade and where it will be protected from the hot, afternoon sun. Tolerant of full sun with adequate moisture. Winter wet sites may result in root rot. Grows primarily in alpine habitats where summers are cool and damp. Gentiana makinoi grows taller than most species of gentian and may benefit from a pruning to 1/2 its height in June to prevent flopping. May require staking.
