  • Rounded to narrow, upright oval, usually developing a flat-topped crown
  • Loosely spaced, nearly horizontal branching
  • Compound leaves with oval to elliptical leaflets
  • Late spring foliage emerges bright green, becoming yellow in the fall

Growing and Maintenance Tips:


With their open growing habit and small leaves, locust provide a pleasing, filtered light. Inermis is a faster-growing cultivar. Locust are popular street trees, as their leaflets are so small as to be almost non-existent.
